Harm Reduction at the Forest

Now that the weekend's mapped out, here's the part that helps it go smoothly. The biggest risk at any festival is not the substance itself; it's not knowing what's actually in it. Pills, powders, and crystals can contain anything regardless of how they look, and visual identification is never reliable. Fentanyl continues to show up in substances where people don't expect it, including stimulants, pressed pills, and powders sold as something else entirely.

Testing reduces that uncertainty. It doesn't make anything guaranteed safe, but it gives you real information to make an informed decision before you ever take anything. That's the whole idea.

Since we won't be on the ground this year, the most useful thing you can do is get set up before you leave. Here's what to pack and how to use it.

Festival-Ready Test Kits and Supplies

đź’ˇ Worth knowing: When results are ambiguous or a sample comes from an unfamiliar source, full lab analysis through Transparency Testing can tell you exactly what is in it and how much.

No booth this year means packing your own kit is the move. Use code ELECTRICFOREST for 15% off through June 30th — order early and everything ships discreetly in time for the gates.

The Transparency Triple Check

One test isn't enough. At-home drug checking works best as a process, not a single step, and each layer answers a different question. We call it the Transparency Triple Check: Strips. Reagents. Verify. Every time.

Layer 1, Screen: Test strips come first

Fentanyl, xylazine, and nitazene strips are the fastest, most accessible first line of defense. They give you a yes or no answer to one specific question: is this adulterant present?

A few things to keep in mind. A negative strip result tells you a specific adulterant wasn't detected. It does not tell you what your substance actually is. Strips also can't account for uneven distribution in pressed pills and powders, so testing one portion doesn't guarantee the rest. We recommend testing all of what you intend to take.

Layer 2, Identify: One reagent is never enough

Reagent testing tells you what your substance likely is, and it's the layer most people skip. No single reagent can identify a substance on its own, because each one reacts to different chemical structures. Using two or more builds a chemical fingerprint that narrows identification significantly and catches substitutions a single reagent would miss.

For example, with MDMA, Marquis turns purple or black, but so do several other compounds. Adding Mecke gives you a second data point, and adding Simon's distinguishes MDMA from MDA. Three reagents together give you high-confidence identification. One reagent gives you a guess. Apollo packages exist so you don't have to figure out which reagents to pair on your own.

Layer 3, Verify: Compare against verified video

A printed color chart shows you a snapshot. A video shows you the full reaction, including timing, color shifts, and the final result. Some substances reach the same final color through completely different progressions, and only video reveals that difference.

The free Transparency Harm Reduction App is built on the world's largest reagent reaction video library, with real reactions from analytically confirmed samples and AI-assisted identification. Film your own reaction, compare it side by side with the verified video, and watch the whole story rather than just the endpoint.

The takeaway: Screen with strips, identify with multiple reagents, verify with the app. Skipping any one of them leaves a gap.

Know Your Dose: SprayPack

Testing tells you what you have. Dosing is the other half of the picture. A lot of harm doesn't come from the substance itself, it comes from not knowing how much was taken. Bumps, lines, key scoops, and eyeballing all vary widely, and once you're under the influence, judging how much more to take gets harder.

SprayPack is a DIY nasal spray kit that turns an unmeasured substance into a consistent, repeatable dose. You combine a fixed amount of substance with saline using the included dose chart, and every spray delivers the same measured amount. No calculating in the moment, no guessing.

There are a few reasons people reach for it:

  • Precision. A bump or a line isn't a measurable amount. A custom-dosed spray is. That makes total intake trackable and reduces the chance of taking more than intended.
  • A gentler method. Dry powder is abrasive on nasal tissue. SprayPack delivers the substance as a sterile saline mist, the same kind of delivery used in medical nasal sprays, which is what your nasal passages are actually built to handle.
  • Discretion. It looks and functions like a standard over-the-counter nasal spray. No surfaces, no tools, no visible paraphernalia, which also means less pressure to rush and more room to dose deliberately.

⚠️ Order of operations: A precisely dosed spray of an unknown or adulterated substance is still risky, because dosing precision means nothing if you don't know what you're dosing. The sequence is always: screen with strips, identify with reagents, verify with the app, then mix your SprayPack. Test first, dose second.
